Wed 30 Aug - Hastings return, 12km+-

What a beautiful day! I was busting to leave work and get out into it.
Put the 'ice' lotion on before leaving. Left at 2.30pm. Once i stepped outside from my place, i could actually feel the warmth. Singlet on. and off i went.
Slow pace planned, but a long one as i won't be running again 'til Mon. So plenty of time for recovery.
Anyway, Headed down to Jacks Beach but decided on following the track right through to Hastings then follow main road home. It was pretty warm and i was starting to wish it was a cooler day. (hard to please)
I was just plodding and around the 40min mark i had to slow down to open a gate and stopped to try and get rid of a rock in my shoe, with no success. I walked for probably 30secs then sped up again.
After another 10mins, i walked up part of an incline (was feeling a tad lazy) crossed the train tracks and headed off yet again. Pace was pretty much the same throughout, but i didn't have the strong urge to push. Which didn't bother me. Was nice to get the distance in instead.

Finished in 75.13mins
HR, Max-160-84%, Av-153-80%

Thankfully i won't have any time to run whilst in Newcastle as i reckon i would melt.lol

P.S i wonder if my eyelash tint made me get into the lazy mode today. For all you boys, an eyelash tint requires you to lay down, eyes shut for 10mins. As usual, i nearly fell asleep.

Have fun without me. Catch up Mon.
Toodles.

Tues 29 Aug - Bike

Jumped on the exercise bike after work. Half way through it, i asked myself why i didn't ride outside???? Anyway.
I was working on a speech whilst riding, and before i knew it, 30mins had past. Then stepped it up so there was plenty of sweat happening.

I am actually pretty anxious to run tmw. Which is a nice feeling to recognise as it has been forever since i have felt like this. Prob use the same track as mon. Looking forward to it.

ANyone have any tips for my speach for my bestfriends wedding?
HELP!

Total time on bike 55mins.
Also did some floor work. :-D

Mon 28 Aug - Jacks Beach, 10km+-

Left about 2.30pm. Plan was to listen to the body, even if i had to cut the run short.
Had slight niggles in shins around 10mins into run, but that soon faded. Had a great time on the board walk as it's something different. Also 'cos it has some dirt areas and winding tracks. It's so nice to be off the road.
I just guessed with the distance as it's unmarked. Ran out for 31mins, then headed back.
Finished in 61.40 (i think)
HR Max-
Av-
(i will add these later as i'm at ma & pa's)

I stopped for the usual toilet stop at jacks beach, then again at the turn around point.
Running with the body instead of against it, is how i ran today and it was so much more enjoyable.

After thinking about this op in 5 weeks time, i am starting to feel a tad anxious. And the only reason is because of the down time from running. I know i have a lot of slack moments and cut back here and there, but when it's not by choice, it's completely different.
But thinking positively, it's far from life threatening and i will recover.

Zzzz

As K banned me from running this w/e, i have nothing to report except that i won't be posting any C2S pics as i just couldn't spot myself out in that enormous crowd.

Received a phone call today from Hospital re my op. apparently Oct 5th is party day.

Tmw plan on 8-10k, see how i feel. Wed same (if i get enough time), Thurs- gotta work then will head into melb as i have a ridiculously early flight on Fri for Newcastle. Wedding saturday, then Sun back home.

Fingers crossed there will be no turbulence as i'm tipping my head may be a little sore.

Fri 25 Aug, Nuns Walk- 10km

Collected the woman at 8.40am and headed straight down to the park. Took the very warm and cosy jumper off to get the teeth chatering and headed off on a planned slow and comfy 10k.
I put some 'ice' lotion on the shins and calf's before i left home this morning. Now this seemed to help, or the fact that we were just cruising. Either way, no pain. The whole run was actually pain free. No sprint at the end for either of us. Behaving today.
Got to see many other runners out there today. It is so good to see others out there enjoying the day. Rain or sun... just bloody beautiful to be out there.
ALso, getting to run in the morn is a treat. Great way to start the day.
No HRM again. I will prob use next run.
Finished in 63mins (i think)

Wed, 23 Aug, Pelican- 4km Argh!

Met K at the park on a planned 6k.
I had 2 red bulls at work, and hydration was not high on my list either. (you'd think i'd learn)
Anyway, set out at an easy pace and almost instantly, i had shin issues. I tried speeding up to work through them but it just wasn't working. My stride was compensating for the burn in the shins and i knew i had to stop.
So, cut it short at the 4.5km mark. K continued on to snatch the 6.
Stretched, sulked and went home.
Finished in approx 25mins (a guess)

Fri 18 Aug, Nuns Walk- 10k

As my memory is normally pretty crappy.... there will be quite a few holes in my very neglected blog. Hmm.... scratching head. K can correct me if i am wrong with any of this, but here goes...
Left Mornington park at (?time) and headed out in a nice easy pace. We were feeling pretty comfy and decided to speed things up a little. We had a ripper time for the 6-7km (i think) and actually hammered it home too.
Finished in (?time)
No HRM today as we used K's gizmo instead.

we both had a fantastic run today. One that gave a super high. (haven't had one of them in a while)... well, not since C2S. hehe.

If i get motivated, i will pinch the stats off K's blog for you to glance over.

Wed, 16 Aug, Wooleys(cw), then Disney- 7km+-

Todays run was just a 'get out there and do it' run. Nothing spectacular. Nice steady pace, and not too far. I actually thought todays route was 6k's but going off the time, i think it is more likely to be 7.
Headed out just before 3pm. Directly into the wind! Yuk.
Hips were a little rigid and shins were a tad sensitive too.
I forgot my ipod, so the run felt like it doubled in time.
I was finding it a little tough, but was happy to get back on the horse again.
Finished in 45.51mins.
Max HR, 169-88%, Av 152-80%
Some nice stretching afterwards, and perhaps a lovely hot radox bath tonight too. :-)

Yesterday, i went for a 12km bike ride. Felt lovely. No troubles at all.
Then after that, i went to the Chiro for some cracking. Oh, and the day i arrived back in Melb, i got a sports massage too. THAT, was fab!

Update on the eating: Still no chocky, which is prob a month now. Woo Hoo. Drinking has virtually stopped (how boring). And my sweet tooth still exists, but not to the extreme it once did. So am pretty happy with my habits atm.

My watch must have been bumped in my baggage as it has recorded 2 x 24hr sessions that i have done when flying. lol.

Sydney City to Surf - Race Report

As i only arrived home this morning, i will now let you all know about one of the most electrifying fun runs i have been to.

Early start on Fri as my flight was a 'breky' flight. While i was waiting to board, i noticed a few fella's with 'Knox Roadrunners' shirts on. Sent SB (paul) a text and he said it could be Gav. So once i arrived in Syd i approached this guy, who i am sure though i was some weirdo! Sure enough, it was Gav. Had a bit of a chat then headed down to the Train. (forgot to mention that 'Toady' was a couple of seats in front of me in the plane.) I wasn't too sure of the stop i was supposed to get off at (thought i would just wing it) so i had a look at the map in the train. Some people asked me if i was running in C2S etc, got chatting, and it turned out that we were staying in the same hotel.
I followed this group of people (one of which was hoping for sub 50!!!!) god damn, have forgotten his name. I realised that one of these guys were familliar. I asked one of the fellas his name, and sure enough it was George. A lot of you would know him. I met him at the MDC in May. Anyway, unloaded the bag at the hotel and headed off to Darling Harbour. Time was 10am and i couldn't get into my room until 2pm. Argh! was pretty tired.
Walked around for a hour or so, then sent a text to Michelle asking what she was up to. "trying to find a pub". Sounded good to me but a tad risky. Luckily for me, they ended up choosing one that required a car. So back to taking in the sights and drinking lots of water.
Finally 2pm came, and i checked into the hotel. After being stuck in the lift for 5mins with an elderly couple, the doors finally opened and i plonked myself on my bed and had a little quiet time.
Once my bro and sis in law arrived it was dinner time, so we went up to 'Waggamama'. I made an effort to choose something with little salt, no meat (not good for my tum before a run) and no delicious cream. Can't remember what it was called, but it was bloody yummy. Basically a stir fry with lots of noodles.
Back to the hotel. Drank lots more water, then a bottle of powerade. Was in bed by 9pm.
After an expected disturbed nights sleep, i was up at 6am to have my 2 peices of bread with honey.
Nerves were pretty good...... until the 'uniform' was put on. K sent a mesg to say she was really nervous, which set me off even more! Was getting syked though. Made our way (150metres) to Hyde Park. Wow! people everywhere! So many runners. I was in heaven.
Nearly everyone had a red hat on. We never managed to find the volunter's handing them out. (prob a good thing as i wanted to wear my normal hat)
OMG! the toilet line was ridiculous. There was no way i was getting in that quew. Was 40mins 'til the start.
We then moved into the HSBC start. one word... 'packed!' We had to stand there, still, jamed up like we were in a mosh pit for 30+mins. Gotta admit, was pretty exciting though. Shirts were being flung about everywhere. We got rid of ours 5mins before the start. A beach ball was being hit around the crowd too.
The view i got when jumping in the air to see down the street was nothing short of amazing. A sea of red. Something i will never forget!

The first group's gun went off. One less heart beat i will never have! lol. then the second. Then about 8mins after first, it was our turn.
Shuffle, shuffle, shuffle. I didn't start my wastch until i was under the start banner. By this time we had broken into a very tight jog. It was bloody awsome! So many people, all doing this together!
So, my plan was to head out nice and easy to keep some energy for that horrible hill and the finish. Neeer!!! Wrong! Off i go, zig-zagging, finding a hole then taking off to find the next. By the 3k mark i knew i had gone out way to fast. The tunnel was groovy though. people were yelling stuff out. Was pretty noisy.
I backed off the pace a bit. My head was feeling a little funky, like i was not getting enough oxygen into my body. By this stage i had lost my Bro. There was a hill, well, an incline that lasted for what seemed to be an eternity. I was feeling so buggered. My plan had now changed to backing off even more 'cos i was starting to get worried i was going to hit the wall and not even make the distance.
Every Gatorade drink station i saw from then on, i made sure i walked while having a sip or two. The 3rd one i stopped at, i had half a cup of it, but it didn't seem to cause me any grief.
As i was struggling a bit, the drink stations were getting to me. The cups! The bloody noisy cups. It was horribly loud and almost earpiercing and was totally messing with my head. lol
So, all of us sticky shoed runners kept on torturing ourselves.
6km marker. uh oh. yep..... 'the hill'. The only plan i had for this, was to not walk any of it. The sun was beaming down. Bloody hot compared to my lovely melb weather i was used to. The hill wound about cnr's and went for approx 1.5km's. Once on the top, i felt that it really wasn't as bad as i was expecting it to be. Phew, i thought to myself. Only to find later that there were more inclines.
My pace seemed to be consistent by this stage. i was finally more comfortable. even though there was only 4or so k's to go, i was against increasing the pace.
Some cute little kids were chanting out the front of their house, "if your tired and you know it, clap your hands" there were plenty of claps, let me tell you! Some spectators were even handing out beers. There were some bands on roof tops playing away too.
Ran past the 12km marker and was extremely happy to see it. It was pretty much all down hill by this stage. I remembered to loosen the arms and let the legs stretch out going down. Didn't have any niggles really. (was wearing my knee brace too).
I could see the beach. Yay! I sarted to up the pace. It was time. Every little bit of me was going to be put into the remainder of this run. The congestion started to get thicker again, then we took the last turn for home. Approx 400meters or so. I was feeling great! I had made the distance, and put in a good effort. Sprinted the last 100meters to claim a time of 86.44mins! My arms were thrown up in the air! Woo Hoo baby. Under 90mins. 'Come on!!!!'
Collected my medal, then grabbed 2 cups of gatorade. Was bloody thirsty by this stage.
Met up with my bro and sis in law. I may get spanked for writting this, but, after deducting his 'short stop' of 5mins, his time was 20secs faster than mine. So basically we were well matched.
The run was not a race against him, but a race against myself and to partake in this absolutely breathtaking, extremely well organised, largest recorded foot race in the world!
Can i add that the women out-numbered the men too! Roar!!

So then our sore little boddies headed up to Bondi Junction to do a little carbo re-loading and some retail therapy. I splashed out a had a coffee too.

I wore my skins until 6pm when we arrived back at bro's. Later on, i had the terrible ache's. You know the sort when your not far off constantly sooking. I was in agony.
I decided it would prob be a good thing to wear them on the flight home too. (proved to be right)
As soon as i got into my car, i phoned my massage therapist and managed to get an appt in an hours time. Perfect.

So now i sit here, feeling pretty chuffed about the whole w/e. I had one of the best times of my running life! This shirt looks pretty hot too!

Thanks to my bro who ran this with me. It really was something special to share. And considering your training had the 'butt fall out of it' a few times, you ran really well.
And to his glowing wife, that car park really was heaven for our chaffed bodies. I can't wait to sample some of your yummy recipes again too.
To everyone else that gave me support, training advice, and sometimes a very hard motivational push, especially K & Stu, Thanks!

I will put some pics up tonight- This pic is obviously a before shot! before all the pain. Thurs i will have a pic from the photographers to put up. fingers crossed.

Sun 13 Aug- Sydney CITY to SURF- 14km

Wow, what a day! Unfortunately i will have to make this a short one as i only have a few minutes spare.

Crap loads of people, was oh so excited, ran too fast too early, didn't walk up any hills, stopped at 3 drink stations, lots of zig-zagging, finished in a fantastic time of 86.44mins.
Max HR 177-93%, Av 165-86%

My bro was 20 secs faster than me.
I really enjoyed this. But am very happy to sit tight for a while in the fun run scheme of things.
Think i may go and get a fine glass of well earned wine.
Toodles.

Fri 11 Aug - Nuns Walk, Easy 5km

Still have so much to do, and as always, not enough time to do it.
K and i ran this morn at Nuns for 5km's. Our watches interfered with each other so i have no information other than i ran for just under 31mins.
I have been in a constant hurry today so my pace was shocking!
Argh! i gotta pack my bags. Argh! I gotta get up early. (4am)
Argh! Not enough time.
Toodles people.
Hopefully i have some good news when i return.

P.S hip was fine, but wore knee brace. Still a tad sore.

P.P.S look for me in the HSBC start, wearing my usual pink hat with orange oakleys. Bit of a needle in a hay stack....

Mon 7 Aug, Wooleys loop- 8.5km

Take a look at these babies!!! My lovely little Asic's collection. (excluding the pair Asics have not returned yet! grr) I finally got my shoes.
I can't remember the old ones ever looking this bright though.

My hip has been fine all day but the niggle has moved to the knee cap area. Argh! will it ever end?
It has actually been a little sore since sat's run with K. Perhaps these 2 issues are linked somehow. Knee feels like there is grit under my knee cap. (had arthroscope done 9years ago and found nothing significant wrong)
So decided to play it safe and go back to the knee brace for todays run. I also wore the new shoes. Criticise all you like. i won't listen. La la la la la la. lol
Anyway, it was so damn nice outside i just couldn't wait to get out into it.

Left at 2.20pm. Took a little unplanned detour (forgot what track i was going to use) and headed out nice and easy. Was worried how i would go so played it safe. Didn't have any probs until 15mins or so and the shins were threatening, but went away. I played around with my stride a little. Tried to lengthen it a tad. Didn't really increase speed though.

I noticed that when i ran on the dirt beside the road, the shin problem eased quite a bit. The camber is pretty noticable. Not sure if that was the reason or just the fact i was running on softer surface.

With a few things on my mind, the run went really fast. Maybe 'cos i was cruising at a nice speed. Either way, i enjoyed it. Also didn't crash and burn, so thats gotta be a positive, right?

Finished run in 50.38mins.

Max HR, 159-83%, 151-79%.

Bro- i hope your feelin fine, 'cos i plan on gettin some whoop arse out on you this Sun baby! pmls.

Sat 5 Aug, Long- Mornington 7km+-

Pic is the gorgeous Mornington Park. Standing where we stretched.

Oh dear... ever had one of those days that you know you would have been better off staying at home?! Hmm... today was turning out to be just that.
Apart from the fact my head was slightly sore from a little drink last night, my body just did not want me to run today.
K and I arrived at Mornington Park around 1pm. We were excited about using her new watch. GPS. Yeah baby, we were feeling pretty swish.
That bubble soon burst once the woman was ready to stomp on the thing 'cos it just would not stop beeping!!
After half an hour or so, it was thrown in the car and we headed out.
The plan was to run for 60mins at an easy pace. My hip was annoying me from the start. It was quite uncomfortable. K also mentioned that she was having some probs too. We stopped at one of the look outs (approx 23mins) to have a good stretch. After we both finished grizzling, we decided to shorten the run and head back from there. No point in beckoning an injury (if that's what it was).
As soon as I took that first stride, it was awful. Felt very stiff. Decision made....appt to be made with Fred for Tues.(fingers crossed)
The pain slowly eased after a few mins and was back to the stable point of being a niggle.
There weren't many moments were the pace was increased, and if it was, it was ever so slight.
I have to mention that K did a great job with her consistent pace when she was leading.

Finished in 45.14mins
Max HR 161-84%, Av 147-77%

Hooray for '2'!!!! She finally did a poo!!!! in the big loo!!!
Then we got to wave goodbye. LOL

Fri 4 Aug, Pelican Park- Fast 6km +2k slow

I ran out of time to post yesterday, so this will prob be short.
9.51 am, did a slow warm up jog for 2km's to get the hip thing nicely warmed up. it was niggling even while doing this. Seems to be while my foot is striking the ground.
Got to the light post and headed off. Did I mention that it was an absolute mud pit!
Anyway, completed first lap right on 12mins. Good time. Was pretty puffed though already. Kept going, dodging all the muddy puddles and the second lap was a fair bit slower, 12.30mins. Last one, 12.12mins. Wasn't my favorite run, but was satisfied with my efforts.
Stretching was a little uncomfortable when doing the calf's. Only in that damn hip.

Finished in 36.42mins- (didn't count warm up time, but will add distance to total k's)
Max HR 168-88%, Av 163-85%

Pics:
- A very weird looking angle of my sexy legs, but i was sitting down and noticed the state of my runners. Now i have proof that i need to buy new ones!
- Part of the very water logged track.

Wed, 2 Aug- Speed 8km +-

Thankfully i read some messages on computer when i got home, 'cos i was feeling a tad lazy. After reading them i felt enthused enough to just get out there and get the job done.

Ok, got to oval at 2.25pm. No football on this week. I ran clock wise for just over 15mins. Stretched, then did the usuall drills:
3 x 30m bum slaps
3 x 30m knee lifts
3 x 60m Strides.
While doing the strides i noticed a weird feeling in my left hip/groin ish area. Hard to explain but you get the idea. As it was only slight, i kept moving.
Headed anti clock-wise up to my starting point for my first 200 and realised i didn't have my bloody stop watch! Decided on using the Polar. Pain in the arse, but at least a time.
As soon as i took off i noticed that pain was in my hip again. But this time, with a vengeance. It didn't make me stop, but made me slow it down completely. I kept jogging with the idea that i would do a few laps to see how much of a deal this was going to be. It lingered on but wasn't as bad as when i tried to run hard earlier. So.... after 2 laps i ran 200m a little harder than what i was doing. Seemed to be ok with only slight discomfort. I continued this until 10 laps had been done. ie if i were to guess pace... 200m at 6-6.30pace, then 200m 5-5.30 alternating between the two.
I have no idea if this was a useless task, but i didn't want to 'just run' nor did i want to continue with the reps and risk damaging something.
After the 10 laps, i did 10mins of c/d jogging.
Stretched, then home for floor work. (crunches, push-ups, plank etc)

Finished in 45.33mins
Max HR 166-87%, 152-80%

I was eyeing off a lamington at work just before i left. I caved in and decided i would take it home and enjoy eating that fluffy sponge cake soaked in chocolate sauce. Now before you spank me..... i changed my mind. I was strong. I opted for the apple i had in my bag. Felt pretty good about that. :-)

not long after leaving, i got the guilts as i remembered i bought a bag of musk lollies at lunch time :-(
